The Biodex system offers a variety of different modes in order to facilitate the patient’s needs.
Isokinetics relates to a muscle producing a constant rate of movement. The machine is told to move at a certain speed and will vary its resistance against the person in order to maintain the speed. In other words, if a person pushes hard, the machine will change its resistance in order to maintain the speed it was originally set at.
The isokinetic machine can work every different joint in the body from spine to ankle. The machine allows each joint to move through all the different planes in a comfortable manner. The motor will provide the appropriate resistance in order to keep the motion smooth and record its results. This will aid in the strengthening and healing process.
The Biodex system offers a variety of different modes in order to facilitate the patient’s needs. A patient may start in the passive treatment and work their way into a more resistive mode over time. At our clinic, we use the isokinetic machine to assess any impairments at a specific joint to provide an appropriate treatment plan to increase range of motion and strength within the muscles to support the joint.
