WHO CAN ENROLL

  • Diagnosis of one or more fractures may or may not have required surgical intervention.

  • Multiple sites of soft tissue injury as a result of a traumatic incident.

WHEN WILL I BE DISCHARGED

The duration of the Trauma and Fractures Program is determined after the initial assessment and depends on the needs of each person served, including the severity of the injury, and may vary based on factors that may delay recovery. One or more of the following criteria must be met to be discharged from the Trauma and Fracture Program:

  • The person served has achieved the goals established with the rehabilitation team.

  • The services of the healthcare providers are no longer necessary or appropriate.

  • The person’s progress has reached a plateau, and they no longer benefit from the program’s services.

  • When the person served cannot tolerate the demands of the program and the appropriate referrals have been made.

BONE GROWTH STIMULATION DEVICES

Bone growth stimulation devices use ultrasound to deliver low intensity pulsed ultrasound signals to the fracture site. This device delivers an acoustic pressure wave, which provides just enough mechanical force to help improve circulation and facilitate new bone growth. Studies show that fresh fractures will heal 38% faster with the use of this device compared to those that have not been treated with ultrasound. Outcomes are dependent on the type and location of the fracture however the advantages of using LIPUS devices for treatment are established.
